Today is tomorrow or the URGENCY of NOW!

I am inspired and fascinated by the stories of people who have a dream and don't just talk about the dream but actually do something about it....they start.

They sometimes do it out of necessity or to solve a problem or because they have a passion for making a difference. They step toward action. They do not wait, hoping it comes to them.

W. Clement Stone was one of those people. Much of what is known about W. Clement Stone comes from his autobiography The Success System That Never Fails. In that book, he tells of his early business life which started with the selling of newspapers in restaurants. At the time, this was a very novel thing to do, which deviated dramatically from the normal practice of young boys hawking newspapers on street corners. He had his own newsstand at 13, and later founded what would become a multibillion-dollar insurance empire with $100 of his hard earned savings.

Stone's own rags-to-riches story convinced him that, with faith and a positive mental attitude, anyone could become successful. The formula for achievement that he believed allowed no room for procrastination,  "When you wake up in the morning, start with the phrase, 'Do it now, do it now, do it now, do it now,'" he said, adding if you want to succeed, this is the start, you should repeat those three words 50 times in the morning and 50 times before bed.

The message he wanted to ingrain in our heads was simple: If you want to be successful, don't wait for tomorrow.

Just do it now.....START!

Stone, who died in 2002 at the age of 100, was a prime example of the power of starting. He didn't let significant obstacles deter him from becoming successful because he understood that the journey of a thousand miles really does begin with one step. And there's no time like the present to take that first step.

I don't know what you need to start.

But it doesn't matter.

Just start now.

What is stopping us?  For most of us it is fear.

Anne Jackson author of Permission to Speak Freely wrote this:

Have you ever wondered who’s behind that little voice in your head that tells you, “you’re in this by yourself, one person doesn’t make a difference, so why even try?” His name is Fear.
Fear plays the role of antagonist in the story of your life. You must rid yourself of him using all necessary means.
We’re often impressed by those who appear to be fearless.
The people who fly to the moon.
Chase tornadoes.
Enter dangerous war zones.
Skydive.
Speak in front of thousands of people.
Stand up to cancer.
So, why are we so inspired by them? Because deep down, we are them.
We all share the same characteristics. We’re all divinely human.
Until Fear is gone, (and realize he may never completely leave) make the decision to be courageous.
The world needs your story in order to be complete.

I love what Anne wrote, because it is true for all of us. God has put a hero inside of you and me and the hero is ready to start doing heroic things!

So just start.....before it is too late!

"We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood -- it ebbs. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, "Too late."

A special invitation from Max Lucado

We are honored to announce our partnership with Max Lucado for a very special Outlive Your Life simulcast event.

This unique message of hope can be hosted by your church or ministry and I know will be a positive impact on you and your community.

I want to personally invite you to be a part of the event but no one can communicate the message like Max and so below is a personal invitation from Max to you.  Please join us for this event!

Chris
Dear Friend,
God changes the world with folks like you... and with folks like those in your church and community. Wouldn't we all like to be part of something bigger than ourselves, something that outlives our lives? You and I have a choice, an opportunity to make a big difference during these turbulent times in our world: 1.75 billion people are desperately poor, one billion are hungry. Lonely hearts indwell our neighborhoods and attend our schools. And yet, in the midst of it all, here we stand: you, me, and our one-of-a-kind lives. Wouldn't we all like to be part of something bigger than our lives, something that outlives our lives?
This question has been on my heart for several years and I can't wait to share with you the answers I've discovered. I'll be sharing thoughts about outliving our lives during a special Outlive Your Life simulcast on May 7. This four-hour event, broadcast live from Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, will also feature messages by my daughter Jenna Lucado Bishop. Jenna has a passion for young people and for those in need. Her words will inspire your teens (and adults, too). In addition, we'll be led in worship by outstanding artist/composer Travis Cottrell.
I hope you'll join us for this special event. I truly believe that we have been created by God to do great works. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven, but here on earth.
P.S. We can make an immediate difference. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be used by World Vision to construct water wells in northern Uganda. For information about becoming a host site for this simulcast, please go to www.incastevents.com. Please join us.

Reagan...led by faith

~ There are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits to the human capacity for intelligence, imagination, and wonder.
~ Ronald Reagan.

It would seem very appropriate this week to talk about Ronald Reagan on the anniversary of his 100th birthday.  A man who impacted the world with his leadership, character, and faith.

Even before he made the White House his home, Ronald Reagan spoke for the American people, capturing the hearts of small-town citizens and world leaders alike.

His remarkable career in public life, spanning over fifty years, began in the Midwest as a student leader and sports broadcaster, then in Hollywood as an actor and long-time director of the Screen Actors Guild, later as Governor of California, and finally, as President of the United States.

His legacy, too, is extraordinary: In eight short years as President, Ronald Reagan presided over epic international changes and ushered in unparalleled peace and prosperity - not only to his country but the world.

We all know the BIG things Ronald Reagan did, they were well publicized.  But the really interesting stories to me about leaders like Reagan are the ones not many people saw.  The character in the things that were done where he wasn't afraid to start something and then lead by example.

Here is one of my favorites!

A retired school teacher in Orlando, Fla., Sara Trollinger, had become so distressed working as a volunteer for an organization trying to talk people out of suicide that she became determined to create a home for distressed teenagers that would provide a Christian environment.

She risked her life savings making a down payment on property she couldn't hope to pay for if her dream didn't generate contributions. It so happened that Reagan was scheduled to make a one-day trip to Orlando the next week to deliver a speech.

On the day Reagan arrived in Orlando a newspaper article about Sara and her dream and faith that a Christian environment could salvage lives was published.  The article was moving  and the results of Sara's work and faith were proving her correct in her purpose.

Reagan read the newspaper on Air Force One en route back to Washington. Touched by Sara Trollinger's faith, Reagan whipped out his personal checkbook and wrote House of Hope a check for $1,000.

The publicity generated by Reagan's donation opened the doors, and donations poured in.
Today House of Hope is a very successful operation and is credited with salvaging the lives of thousands of troubled teenagers. Sara has now started 40 Houses of Hope in 27 states. The original old house has expanded to 10 acres with 24 buildings and five homes, all paid for and with not a dime of the taxpayers' money.

The check wasn't the end of it, though. Reagan and his wife visited House of Hope. Their interest in and support for House of Hope made all the difference in the world. Sara Trollinger's faith in God was rewarded in the form of Ronald Reagan.

I hear people who have talked about the mystery of Reagan. There was no mystery....he was exactly what he appeared to be — a kind, brave, humorous man with firm convictions. Reagan is one of the few men in public life who was exactly the same in private as he was in public. He had no hidden agendas; he never tried to manipulate people or to trick them; he did not wear one face in public and another when the cameras were turned off. He was exactly as he appeared to be.

Here was a man who saw what needed to be done and led with his actions and ultimately made a world of difference for all of us.

~ We believe faith and freedom must be our guiding stars, for they show us truth, they make us brave, give us hope, and leave us wiser than we were. ~Ronald Reagan

STARTLED!

A chief event of life is the day in which we have encountered a mind that startled us.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Startled
intransitive verb
: to move or jump suddenly

We usually associate being "startled" with something that makes us "jump suddenly" as it says in the definition.  But I believe being startled also can actually inspire us to take action.

In the next few posts on in:ciite fuel I am taking a journey to discover some stories of people who have startled us by taking action and thus inspiring our world.

These creative, courageous and committed people are never at rest, but continually seeking to produce a faster, better, simpler, easier, commodity or cure. They open up new areas of research, new fields of development, new plains of art, and faster ways of production.

I hope you will join me in learning from these people and how they have changed our lives and I hope we all will be startled by what we see.

Also, feel free to send me examples of people who have "startled" you into taking action in your life!

There has to be this pioneer, the individual who has the courage, the ambition to overcome the obstacles that always develop when one tries to do something worthwhile, especially when it is new and different.
Alfred P. Sloan
